Bear Says Thanks
Jane Chapman, illustrator
Margaret K. McElderry Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, Inc., 2012
From the jacket flap: “What better way for Bear to say thanks than over a nice big dinner? One by one, Bear’s friends show up with different platters of delicious food to share. There’s just one problem. Bear’s cupboards are bare! What is he to do? Karma Wilson’s playful text and Jane Chapman’s delightful illustrations bring to life this celebration of family and friendship. Young readers will enjoy discovering the special gift Bear has to share and rejoicing in all of the wonderful things we have to be thankful for.”
Through easy rhymes, Bear learns it’s okay to be the recipient of gifts from friends who love him, even though he has nothing to give in return. All his friends want is the pleasure of his company and he says “Thanks.” The text is large-sized for early readers, and the illustrations are softly colored with lots of details. It’s a nice story for winding down after the big day filled with fun and food, reminding us all to be thankful.
