The Halloween Cat
Dora the Explorer

From the back of the book: “Dora and Boots find a lost cat on Halloween. Will they get the cat home in time for the big Halloween party?” This book, according to the publisher is a ‘Level 1 – Starting to read’ and it’s attributes are listed as ‘simple stories, increased vocabulary, [and] longer sentences’.
Dora tells a cute and very short story. Dora and Boots help a black cat find her way home through a haunted house, a locked gate and a spooky forest. When they finally find the Good Witch’s Candy Castle, they find a Halloween Party in full swing.
The print is large and some of the words have icons to identify them because they might be new or hard to pronounce. The illustrations are bright and cheerful and very toddler friendly. I especially like how Dora made it through the spooky forest – I can see little ones following along the path with their paw to find their way out. The story encourages interaction between the older reader and younger listener. I really loved the Candy Castle.

Of course I know who Dora is, but without kids, I’ve never really come across her in any capacity. But glad you like the book!

We don’t read Dora normally but she was helping a cat so we just had to!

Great review, but I am not a fan of Dora.

We don’t really care for Dora either – she’s to education centered – but it involved a black cat and that is always worth a read!!
