Skippyjon Jones: Lost in Spice
Dutton Children’s Books, Penguin Young Readers Group, 2009
Skippyjon goes to Mars in this book! When he gets there he finds it is covered in red spice, which makes him sneeze. And of course, his amigos, Los Chimichangos, are there as well. While on Mars – he meets his Martian Twin!!! LOVE it!! The Los Chimichangos get into trouble and its up to Skippyjon to rescue them from the other Martians. Which he does, but it sends him back home to Earth! His mom fusses over the spicy mess he has made – and calls him Major Tom (for those old enough to know the song)! As usual, I laughed really loud out loud!!! We really must get these Skippyjon books for our collection!!
Skippyjon Jones and the Big Bones
Dutton Children’s Books, Penguin Young Readers Group, 2007
As this book opens we find Skippyjon misbehaving by digging up his neighbor’s dog’s bones. While the bulldog, Darwin, is asleep, Skippyjon sneaks in and steals the bones, takes them back to his room and pretends they are dinosaur bones. After glueing some to his stuffed kitty, Mr. Purrfect, he bounces into his closet as El Skippito and into a prehistoric land. He meets up with his amigos there and they go dinosaur hunting. They are soon rewarded (scared by?) with the biggest one of all, T. Mexito. But it is T. Mexito that is put off by El Skippito’s bad breath!! The Chimichangos are so happy their own Skipposaurus saved them they start singing and dancing. All of a sudden there’s a loud booming noise that stinkitos – who could it be??? Only Darwin coming to retrieve his bones!!! Poor Skippyjon; all he wants is to have some fun and all he gets is trouble.
I’ve said it before but it is worth saying again: WE LOVE SKIPPYJON JONES!!!!!!
Rating 5 out of 5 paws ‘cause both books are just so danged fun. And cute. And funny. And creative. And beautifully drawn. Really. I could go on forever, but I won’t.
Skippyjon has his own website! Check it out here:
